Make a website!

The internet is in a rough state. What used to feel like an uncharted realm of endless possibility now feels like wading through an endless pit of corporate excrement, engagement bait and ads. I don’t know about you, but most websites I come across leave me either mad, depressed or both.

This is sadly true for the furry space too. FurAffinity is still the largest furry-only platform and it is, in my humblest of opinions, terribly mismanaged. The alternatives - Twitter and Bluesky - are just your standard social media that reward being as inflamatory as possible which I’m really not a fan of. Not to speak of the tendency for short-form, easily digestible content that the web as a whole has aggressively veered towards in the last decade.

In this day and age, I think it’s increasingly important that every one of us carve out their own little corner of the web, at the very least as a way to compliment your online presence on other more well established sites. Something we have complete ownership of - free from corporate shackles and the temptation of online validation. Something to share between your friends and communities you’re a part of.

That is what this website is.

My own little piece of internet on which no one can tell me what to do and my imagination can run wild. Granted, at the time of writing this, it’s mostly a place to dump my smutty stories and assorted ramblings- but that’ll change!! Does FA have an animated underwater background?! With fish and bubbles ?! Can Bluesky do THIS ?!

I rest my case.

But in all seriousness, I urge you to consider making your own site. Dedicate it to your niche hobby, or that universe that you’ve been daydreaming of, or your super specific kink. Talk about your hyperfixation, write that story, post that game you’ve been making in your free time or just make up whatever weird unclassifiable shit you want to. Be weird! Be you! You’re great!

Making your own website is easier than ever these days. You might have heard of neocities which provides an easy and free way to make and host your own website. For the more technically inclined, Hugo is a great option for static sites like this one. Or you can just go with plain old HTML and CSS. It’s much easier than you might expect and a lot of fun when you get the hang of it!

Hosting is another matter entirely, but there is no shortage of free services like GitHub Pages or Cloudflare Pages.
